Happy New Year and Happy Anniversary!

As we say good bye to 2011 and look forward to 2012, I'd like to take a moment to reflect on the year since I took over the helm here at The Glebe Apothecary. I'd also like to take a moment to thank all of our loyal customers for your continued support and to recognize the team of dedicated people here.

2011 was a difficult and challenging year in many ways.

In January, the new owners took over and entrusted me with the promise that The Glebe Apothecary should continue to operate as it always has, to meet the needs of its clientele. I have tried to live that promise to the best of my ability. I think my staff and I have responded to the challenge and maintained our tradition of meeting our customers' needs.

In March we learned that Bank Street construction originally scheduled for 2012 or 2013 would begin in 2011. We had barely 2 months' notice that Bank St. would be closed from May to November for much needed water and sewer replacement. Again we responded. We instituted free delivery so our loyal customers could get their needed medication throughout the disruption. And while we hate to say goodbye to a good thing, economic reality dictates that we must say goodbye to free delivery. A nominal delivery fee will help offset the rising cost of this service starting this month.

We said goodbye to many dear friends who passed away in 2011. Our hearts and thoughts go out to their families and wish everyone a happier 2012. And may I personally commend the staff and facility at the Hospice at May Court for the wonderful job they do of providing a unique palliative care experience to ease patients and their families through the transition. I look forward to continuing to work with the Hospice to help patients face death with dignity and comfort.

We said goodbye to some staff and welcomed some new faces. As always we remained dedicated to the tradition of service excellence and unique products for which The Glebe Apothecary is known. I'd like to acknowledge and thank my staff, old and new, for their continued dedication and effort.
