Safety with Sunscreen: There are many different sunscreens available to us, the key is picking a product that works best for you while giving you the most protection.

For some of us it might be hard to imagine right now, but believe it or not summer is not too far away. While staying inside and avoiding the sun completely is hardly an option there are many ways you can defend yourself against harmful UV rays. To help you prepare for the warmer days ahead the feelbest team thought we would share a couple of tips to help you and your family stay sun safe all season long.

Dress the part: Making sure you are well protected with the proper clothing is a great way to shield yourself from the harmful effects of the sun. Wear loose-fitting tightly woven and lightweight clothing, a wide brim hat and sunglasses with both UV-A/UV-B protections and try to avoid direct exposure to sun during the peak hours of 11am-4pm.

Safety with Sunscreen: There are many different sunscreens available to us, the key is picking a product that works best for you while giving you the most protection. Here are a couple of tips in picking the right sunscreen.

  • Make sure you choose a sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or higher, however if you plan on being outside for extended periods of time choose one with an SPF of 30 or higher for better protection.
  • When reading the label look for “broad spectrum”, this means the sunscreen offers both UV-A and UV-B protection.
  • Generously apply sunscreen 20 minutes before heading outside and reapply frequently at least every two hours.
  • Be sure to choose a water-resistant product if swimming and reapply after any water activities.

Check yourself: Check your skin regularly for any changes in your skin, birthmarks and moles. Most skin cancers can be treated and cured it caught early on enough. Get to know your body and be sure to get our doctor to check on any skin area you are concerned about.
